On Thursday (November 7, 2024), two civilians, also serving as Village Defense Force (VDG), were abducted and killed by suspected militants in Kishtwar district of Jammu. Meanwhile, security forces surrounded a group of militants in Sopore, north Kashmir.
Photos of the victims were allegedly posted on social media by the Kashmiri Tigers, believed to be an offshoot of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). However, police could not immediately confirm the authenticity of this statement.
The Kashmir Tigers claimed that two VDG members were chasing them in the jungles of Kishtwar when they caught them and “executed them”.
The victims were identified as Nazir Ahmed and Kuldeep Kumar. Initial reports indicate the victims were shepherds traveling upriver to herd their cattle. Security forces have launched a massive search operation in the area, officials said.
Meanwhile, National Conference Chairman Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the killings. “This brutal act of violence remains a significant obstacle to lasting peace in Johnson & Johnson. Their thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased at this tragic time.
Meanwhile, the Army said on Thursday evening (November 7, 2024) that terrorists opened fire on security forces during a search operation.
On November 7, based on specific intelligence about the presence of terrorists, the Indian Army and the J&K Police launched a joint operation in Panipura, Sopore, and Baramulla. Suspicious activities were observed by vigilant troops and terrorists opened fire indiscriminately when challenged. Its own troops retaliated effectively,” the army said.
The Army said the operation was ongoing.
