MP Canimozhi on Thursday urged women to get screened for breast cancer as early as possible.
Addressing the launch ceremony of the breast cancer screening program jointly organized by Indian Oil Corporation and India Turns Pink, she said that nearly 50% of women in the country choose to be screened only at the third or fourth stage of cancer. Addressing pupils at Lady Willingdon’s School in Triplicane, she said they should ask their mothers, relatives, teachers and neighbors to get tested.

Annadurai, executive director of Indian Oil Corporation and chief executive of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry states, said the measure aims to cover 20,000 women from the fishing community and transport industry. “This is just the first phase. Through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, the company has purchased six non-invasive devices for breast cancer screening without causing any inconvenience to women.
