The cyber wing of the Maharashtra police has registered a case against a number of online marketplaces and e-commerce platforms for selling messages glorifying gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, officials said on Thursday (November 7, 2024). Bishnoi and underworld Don Dawood Ibrahim T-shirts.
“These products that idolize criminal figures promote distorted (values) images and pose a significant risk to society and may have a negative impact on the minds of young people,” an official said.
“During the online vigil by cyber security officials, we discovered that multiple e-commerce platforms including Flipkart, AliExpress and marketplaces such as TeeShopper and Etsy have been selling messages praising Lawrence Bishnoi and Dawu T-shirts of gangsters like Dawood Ibrahim.
The Maharashtra network said in a press release that it considers this behavior to be substantively harmful as it seeks to corrupt the values of the youth by spreading messages that glorify a criminal lifestyle through the use of seemingly casual clothing.
Taking serious cognizance of the issue, Maharashtra Cyber has registered a case against those sellers responsible for listing these objectionable products under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including 192 (wanton provocation with intent to cause disturbance) , 196 (Inciting enmity between persons), Dissimilar Groups and Section 353 (Public mischief) and provisions of the Information Technology Act, the press release said.
