Oppo said on Thursday (November 7, 2024) that it will use the world’s first dual periscope camera system with a prism folding reflective system in its upcoming smartphone series Oppo Find X8. The new flagship series is expected to be launched in India in December.

The Chinese smartphone maker’s new series will also feature next-generation AI features in the X8 series’ quad cameras, such as AI-enabled telescopic zoom, HyperTone imaging engine, Dolby Vision recording, and 4-microphone spatial audio.

It also features Hasselblad Portrait, Master Mode for fine control of camera settings, and Lightning Snapshot, which is claimed to be able to capture 100 photos in 30 seconds.

The Find X8 series will be equipped with a 50 MP Sony LYT-600 sensor, a 3x telephoto lens and a 1/1.95-inch sensor. The prism folding lens is 30% lighter and 24% smaller than the previous model.

The 50 MP Sony IMX858 features a 6x periscope camera with optical image stabilization (OIS).

The main sensor of the Oppo Find X8 series will be the 50 MP Sony LYT-808 sensor.

The Find X8 series uses 2-DOL HDR capture technology and an improved HyperTone image engine to simultaneously capture two sets of exposure data using alternating pixels within the same frame. Oppo says: “This approach improves dynamic range and enables sharp images, especially when shooting fast-moving subjects.”

The HyperTone imaging engine claims to maintain the highest image quality between midtones, highlights and tones by performing all computational adjustments directly on RAW sensor data.

The Find X8 series is also equipped with an AI telescopic zoom function that can assist in magnifying the subject up to 120 times.

The Oppo Find X8 series will also support Dolby Vision shooting, and the camera system has a 12-bit processing pipeline that can adjust brightness and contrast levels frame by frame.

The Find X8 series is also equipped with a dedicated camera quick button to launch the camera. Just click to take a photo or video, while long press the quick button to take continuous photos. Users can also slide this dedicated camera button to zoom in while taking photos or videos in landscape mode.

The Oppo Find X8 series will offer focal lengths from 24mm to 135mm as well as Hasselblad camera modes.
