Crime in Andhra Pradesh: In a bizarre incident in Andhra Pradesh, the body of a man was delivered in a box to a family in Yandagandi in Godavari district.

The body of an unidentified 45-year-old man was delivered with a demand of over Rs 1 crore, police said on Friday, claiming it was the compound interest amount on a loan taken years ago, news agency PTI reported. The boxes were delivered to the home the family was building on Thursday evening.

Speaking about the incident, district police chief Adnan Nayeem Asmi said the box was delivered to the family of four along with a letter demanding Rs 135 crore. “The body reached this place (the house under construction) last night,” Asmi told PTI, adding that police were investigating the case to unearth more details.

The box was brought to Saji Tulasi’s under-construction home in Yandagandi village of Ondi mandar in a three-wheeler, the Press Trust of India said, citing police sources. It is worth mentioning that Tulasi’s husband disappeared more than ten years ago and never returned home, causing her to live with her parents.

The senior police officer said Tulasi lived with her parents until the arrival of her sister, after which she moved to a rented accommodation.

Tulasi later began building a house about a kilometer away from her parents’ home and began receiving help from a philanthropist who sent her high-quality tiles and paint in September.

According to police, the unidentified philanthropist told Tulasi that he was helping her since they both belonged to the same caste and she was a “widow”.

Police said Tulasi also received a message on Thursday that she would receive some electrical items such as motors and other items, and boxes were also delivered containing the body.

After discovering the body, the family informed the police. Along with the body, they also found a letter claiming that Tulasi’s husband had taken a loan of Rs 3 lakh in 2008, which had now been compounded to Rs 135 crore.

“So, if you don’t want anything bad to happen, you should pay,” police quoted the letter as saying, adding that the family did not have such financial resources. Property disputes are also suspected.

“We are checking the status of all the missing persons in the past three to four days. We will get clearer information after the autopsy of the bodies is carried out,” the SP said. Meanwhile, Asmi noted that the family’s young son-in-law has been missing since yesterday.
