It is reported PTIThe police on Thursday registered a case of electricity theft under Section 135 of the Electricity Act, 2003, against the Samajwadi Party MP.
His father Mamlukur Rehman Barq has also been booked for allegedly threatening officials during a residence check in Dipasalai area, they said.

Based on an FIR filed by the electricity department, the inspection team found evidence of electricity theft by bypassing meters and confirmed illegal consumption of electricity.

PTI reported that the inspection was conducted at the residence of Zia Ur Rehman on Thursday morning amid tight security. The Lok Sabha MP from Sambhal is also among those booked in connection with the November 24 violence in which four locals were investigated during a probe into the Mughal-era Shahi Jama Masjid in Kot in the city. Clashed with security personnel and was killed.
Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar Bishnoi earlier told reporters that Santosh Tripathi of the electricity department was assigned to inspect the Deepa Sarai area at 7:30 am on Thursday electrical equipment.

He said that during the inspection of the MP’s residence, Mamlukul Rehman Balk abused engineers VK Gangal and Ajay Kumar Sharma and obstructed the government work.
The SP said Barker told the engineer that “allocations will change and we will destroy you”. The incident was videotaped by the power department.
Bishnoi added: “In accordance with the relevant provisions of the law, a case has been registered at the Naqasa police station against Barker and two others – Wasim and Salman.”
Vinod Kumar said the MP’s house had two power sources, each of 2 kilowatts. One is named after Zia Ur Rehman and the other is named after his late grandfather.
Power department officials said the smart meter was installed at the MP’s residence two days ago and the unit consumption of the meter has been zero for the past six months.

He added that a load of 16.48 kilowatts was found at his residence when the house was inspected on Thursday. When two of his meters were sent to the lab, MRI tests revealed that both meters had been tampered with.
The electricity inspection campaign in Sambhar is still ongoing.
During today’s inspection, engineers Ajay Sharma and VK Gangal claimed that they were threatened by the MP’s father. He said a complaint has been lodged with the police in this regard.
