Imphal:
The Manipur government said in a statement on Thursday that there is no organization named “Kuki-Zo Council” in Manipur and no district named “Lamka” exists. The group opposed Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s journey through Kangpokpi district to Senapati district, where Mr Singh attended a local festival.
“The Manipur government wishes to respond to certain allegations recently made by an organization calling itself the Kukizo Congress. Upon investigation, it was found that no such organization exists in Manipur,” the Manipur government said in a statement.
“The origins and authenticity of this organization are highly questionable. There is no region named Lanka that is called the headquarters [of the group] In Manipur. This raises strong suspicions about the external origins of these organizations that appear to operate outside the legal and administrative framework,” the government said.
The police are investigating the matter and will register a case to ascertain the true nature and intention behind such misleading activities, the government said in a statement, adding that “the people of Manipur are urged to be cautious and not pay heed to remarks” or from Claims by organizations of dubious origin that have recently emerged with the apparent intent of causing chaos and unrest.
India’s home ministry has re-implemented the protected area system in Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland amid growing security concerns caused by the influx from neighboring countries, the report said.
With this re-implementation, the movement of foreigners traveling to Manipur will be closely monitored and they will have to obtain permits under the Foreigners (Protected Areas) Order, 1958, the government said.
The state said it would share updates as the investigation progresses. Ask the media not to publish unauthorized statements by organizations and individuals.
“We also call on the central government and its agencies to ignore such claims by unsubstantiated organizations. At this moment, restoring peace and harmony in our communities is more important than ever. The government will not tolerate any behavior that threatens to disrupt social order. “Peace process,” it said.
